Coastal House began with a simple instinct: from the street, it shouldn't look like a house at all. Two solid stone volumes sit into the landscape, closed and unreadable, with no windows facing the road. The building gives nothing away.
Between the two blocks, a full-height glass opening cuts straight through to the ocean beyond, the only clue to what the house is actually about. Walk past it and you'd assume it was landscape. Walk through it and the whole idea reveals itself at once.
Inside, the house turns completely toward the water. Every main living space opens directly to the ocean, uninterrupted, with no openings back toward the street or the world behind it. The result is a home that feels sealed off from everything except the one view that matters, designed as a genuine retreat from the noise of the city, not just in feeling but in the way the building is physically built to shut it out.
Coastal House is proof that restraint can be the whole idea. The house says almost nothing from the street, and everything once you're inside.
