This fit out was designed for two young entrepreneurs opening a focaccia and pizza-by-the-slice spot, aimed at a young lunchtime crowd who wanted somewhere fast, fun and full of energy to eat.
The concept started with a memory: a stroll through South Italy in summer, past bright, colourful rendered buildings crowded together into narrow, cozy alleys, their rectangular windows shaded from the heat by timber batten screens. That warmth carries straight into the space, yellow, orange and pink rendered tones, offset by a touch of teal that nods to the deep emerald water everyone pictures when they think of the Italian coast.
At the servery, a mix of multi-coloured tiles picks up the same energy, an organised kind of chaos that echoes the feeling of wandering those alleys, colourful, layered and a little unpredictable, but never messy.
The result is a space that does exactly what its owners set out to do: bring a burst of South Italian sunshine into a fast, casual lunch spot, for customers who might only be in for five minutes but leave feeling like they had a small holiday.
